British Literature

Syllabus

2009/2010

 

All standards for 11/12 in Language Arts are emphasized

 

Literature:  

Beowulf, Anglo-Saxon riddles and poems, Medieval ballads, The Canterbury Tales (excerpts), Le Morte D’Arthur, Sir Gawaine and the Green Knight, Macbeth, Elizabethan sonnets, A Modest Proposal, Gulliver’s Travels (excerpts), Samuel Pepys’ diary (excerpts), Romantic poetry, Frankenstein (excerpt), short stories, Brave New World, Pride and Prejudice

 

Composition:

All four forms of discourse (narration, description, exposition, argumentation) as well as resumes and letters of application. All composition should be saved to the student’s Novell account. A portfolio of all compositions is due at the end of the year.

Vocabulary and Grammar: Standards based vocabulary study. Grammar is prescriptive with an emphasis on style.
