 English 3- American Literature

Course Description

English 3 is a course designed to provide an enriched study of  American literature. We will concentrate on reading, analyzing, and writing about literature. Students will be reading and writing on a daily basis. We study vocabulary extensively, in addition to grammatical conventions. The major reading assignments this year include Native American Literature, The Crucible, Romantic poetry and short stories, Transcendentalism, Realism and Twain, The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, and The Chosen.

Materials Required

Students are required to bring a SSR book, pen, pencil, and paper to class everyday. Students should have a separate binder, folder, or notebook with paper for a journal. Organization and preparedness are considered in students’ participation grade. The school provides all vocabulary and literary texts.

Objectives

Ø      Students will participate in class discussions, journal writing, quizzes, group projects, essay writing, research and tests that are designed to aide students in grasping the concepts mentioned above.

Ø      Students will participate in silent sustained reading daily.
